About The Position

Halpert CPAs is looking for a part-time, work-from-home Accountant to serve their non-profit client base. This position will be based out of your home office, working between 10-30 hours per week. This position offers PTO and a retirement plan with an employer match. As an Accountant, you will support a number of non-profit organizations remotely, by doing their monthly accounting and reviewing the bookkeeping done by their in-house staff. You will prepare finance reports for review by staff, board, and other stakeholders. Members of the firm provide vacation coverage for colleagues when needed and are involved in the continual improvement of the firm's systems.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel, web-based cloud tools, and Google Drive Apps
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP required
  • Experience with monthly close accounting tasks
  • Experience working with supporting schedules (fixed assets, prepaid expenses, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze financial statements
  • Ability to be patient and flexible in dealing with clients and colleagues at different comfort levels with accounting
  • Professional manner in all communication
  • Co-operative and balanced approach to work
  • Must be able to communicate via phone and email
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with non-profit GAAP preferred
  • Experience in accounting at a small- or mid-sized non-profit organization preferred
  • Experience teaching QuickBooks bookkeeping to non-accountants preferred
  • Ability to travel locally is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs bank and credit card account reconciliations
  • Reviews and adjusts balance sheet accounts to supporting schedules, including prepaid expenses, vacation time, and fixed assets
  • Allocates shared costs to functions (program, administration, and fundraising) for the statement of functional expenses
  • Tracks expenses for grants received and adjusts temporarily restricted net asset balances
  • Reviews transaction detail, noting coding changes and using them as opportunities to train the client
  • Produces a set of monthly finance reports for staff and board
  • Checks 990 returns and audited financial statements to client records
  • Responds to client questions in a timely manner using the most effective mode of communication for the situation
  • Trains clients in the proper use of QuickBooks Online (QBO) and the best practices developed by our firm
  • Implements improvements proactively to client and our firm’s systems when relevant
  • Reports hours worked accurately and on a daily basis
  • Responds to colleague and supervisor questions and requests in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned
