Work arrangement: Hybrid (2 days WFH) Compensation At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members and are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $79970 - $105966.08 Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This position may also be eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP). AIP amounts are variable and are dependent on both company and individual performance, subject to eligibility criteria. The target bonus percentage for this role is 5% of annual base earnings. Reporting to Manager - Finance & Accounting, The accountant is responsible for supporting Finance and Accounting operations by ensuring accurate financial records, timely financial reporting and analysis, managing capital expenditures (Capex) and ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulatory and internal control requirements. The role will also support external audits, government reporting requirements, continuous process improvement and partner with business stakeholders to deliver reliable financial insights.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in medium size manufacturing or distribution environment, portion of which should include hands-on bookkeeping, AR/AP, Capex and General accounting
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and best practices (Canadian GAAP & ASPE)
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably Oracle)
  • Advance Excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and Pivot Tables
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Capable of embracing diversity and equity to ensure they contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Audit experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools Power BI, or Tableau is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Preparing accounting journal entries for monthly accruals
  • GL account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounts (cash & investments, prepaid, other receivables and payables, accrual, intercompany reconciliation and settlement)
  • Fixed Asset administration, monthly capital expenditure reporting (continuity sch, NBV, depreciation journal entry preparation)
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing tasks
  • Preparation of financial statements (BS, P&L and statement of cash flow) and financial package for management reporting
  • Conduct variance analysis, investigate and comment on significant deviations or unusual variances and follow up with different departments as needed
  • Support documentation requirements in Invest Ontario loan application
  • A/R Billing and Cash application
  • Manage and administer the Concur T&E program and Vehicle fleet program
  • Manage insurance administration and claim
  • Assist in quarterly forecast preparation
  • Assist in annual budgeting process
  • Cash flow projections
  • File monthly commodity taxes
  • Prepare supporting documents for corporate tax filing
  • NR4 filing
  • Support Internal Control Process Implementation
  • Assist in External and Government audits
  • Support process improvement and automation initiatives
  • Help develop, implement, and maintain a robust internal control framework to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Support documentation requirements in Invest Ontario loan application
  • Support the Finance & Accounting team on any ad-hoc assignments.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis for management as required.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
