About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our team in Smithers, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, contributing to strategic financial decisions, and driving continuous improvement. This is a full-time position running Monday-Friday (40–45 hours/week.) Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in the month-end close process, financial reporting, budgeting, and maintaining strong internal controls. You'll work closely with both operational and leadership teams, gaining exposure to a wide range of accounting and finance functions while helping support the continued growth of Bandstra!

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of accounting or finance experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles and financial reporting processes
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification
  • Experience with TruckMate software
  • Experience in a multi-location, transportation, logistics, or operational accounting environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, intercompany balances, prepaids, and accruals, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements and reports
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly working papers for submission to the parent company
  • Assist the Controller with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and reporting
  • Maintain and support internal control processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance
  • Manage the capital expenditures program, including tracking asset additions and disposals, and recording monthly amortization
  • Support annual budget preparation and financial planning activities for senior management
  • Collaborate with external auditors to support audit requirements and ensure timely completion
  • Review accounts payable payments for accuracy and assist in preparing weekly cash flow projections
  • Review GST filings and reporting to ensure tax compliance
  • Assist in the preparation of terminal profit and loss statements
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Participate in monthly management meetings and financial reviews
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and support process improvement and change management initiatives across finance and operations
  • Lead or support ad hoc projects and special assignments as required
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies across finance and operations
