About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Accountant to manage the financial operations of our mitigation banking subsidiary and support billing and collections for our Environmental department. This role is critical to ensure accurate financial management, operational efficiency, and strategic growth across multiple states in the Southeast. The Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, manage complex billing structures, support investment partnerships, and work closely with operations teams—including construction crews engaged in stream restoration projects. This position supports a mitigation banking operation with projected revenues of $6.6 million in 2026, growing to $10.6 million by 2030, as well the Environmental department projected to generate $9.5 million in 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, environmental services, real estate, or project-based businesses
  • Experience managing multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions
  • Strong understanding of billing, collections, and revenue recognition
  • Experience working with investment partnerships or complex financing structures preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across departments and geographic regions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Clear communication skills with both financial and non-financial team members
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
  • Comfort operating in a growing, fast-paced environment with evolving needs

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations for the mitigation banking subsidiary, including: Accounts payable and expense tracking Billing and revenue recognition Investment schedules and financial reporting
  • Maintain and monitor budgets aligned with revenue goals and long-term projections
  • Track and manage financial aspects of mitigation credits, project costs, and cash flow
  • Oversee equipment and vehicle accounting, including depreciation, usage tracking, and cost allocation
  • Support and manage financial reporting related to a partnership with an investment company
  • Work closely with a team of five construction crew members engaged in stream restoration projects to track job costs and project-level financial performance
  • Support operations across current project sites in Alabama, with expansion into Tennessee in 2026
  • Manage billing and collections for the Environmental department
  • Coordinate invoicing for mitigation banking support services and environmental design services
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing across multiple states, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina
  • Monitor receivables, follow up on outstanding balances, and support cash flow management
  • Collaborate with environmental project managers to align billing with project milestones and deliverables
  • Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and long-range financial planning
  • Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and applicable regulations
  • Support audits and provide documentation as needed
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the business grows
