About The Position

Aspen Careers is partnering with a highly respected, full-service Cleveland law firm to identify an Accountant to join its Trusts & Estates department. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced tax professional who enjoys individual and fiduciary tax work and wants to apply that expertise in a sophisticated legal environment. Law firm experience is not required. Candidates coming from public accounting, CPA firms, wealth management, trust companies, or other tax-focused environments are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience preparing Form 1041 – U.S. Income Tax Returns for Estates and Trusts is required.
  • Experience preparing Form 1040 – U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns.
  • Understanding of fiduciary taxation and the income, deductions, and distributions associated with estates and trusts.
  • Experience working with investment income, including interest, dividends, and capital gains and losses.
  • Familiarity with Schedule K-1s and beneficiary reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize financial and tax documentation from multiple sources.
  • Comfortable communicating and collaborating with attorneys, clients, financial advisors, banks, investment professionals, and other outside advisors.

Nice To Haves

  • Approximately 3–5+ years of accounting, tax preparation, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with tax preparation software such as CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, Lacerte, or a similar platform is helpful.
  • Experience with Forms 706 and/or 709, estate administration, probate accounting, fiduciary accounting, or trust administration is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred, but not required.
  • CPA, EA, or CPA-track experience is welcomed but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual and fiduciary income tax returns, including Forms 1040 and 1041.
  • Work with estate and trust matters involving income, deductions, distributions, investments, and beneficiary reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with experienced trusts and estates attorneys and other professionals on sophisticated client matters.
  • Gain exposure to the intersection of tax preparation, fiduciary accounting, estate administration, and trust administration.
