About The Position

Provides moderately complex professional accounting expertise to ensure that transactions are accurately recorded, analyzed, and reported in a timely, cost-effective manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP) and in compliance with regulatory, state and federal requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business processes (procure to pay, order to cash, record to report, capital asset accounting, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of economic factors affecting the company’s business.
  • Proficiency in current versions of Microsoft Excel and Word required.
  • Strong understanding of policies and procedures that apply to assignments and insight into the “why” as well as the “how”.
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Typically 2-4 years relevant experience in an accounting, accounting support or finance role.
  • Experience in public accounting a plus.
  • Expected to serve as a resource to others for knowledge transfer, training and checking work.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Most assignments regularly require some problem identification and resolution.
  • Recommends solutions to non-recurring problems by analyzing, interpreting and evaluating various precedents and data.
  • Anticipates and proactively solves moderately complex problems using internal and external resources.
  • Expected to identify opportunities and to provide ideas, methods and innovations to enhance teamwork, efficiency and quality.
  • Actions and decisions are made within established processes, procedures and deadlines.
  • Independent judgements are reviewed and approved.
  • Attention to detail, knowledge of U.S. GAAP, and integrity of data is critical in the development of journal entries and reports relied on by others.
  • Completed work is independently reviewed and approved for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provides an important contribution to monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close and reporting cycle, risk is limited by extensive review and oversight.

Nice To Haves

  • ERP/Financial Systems (Oracle and Essbase) a plus.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs revenue and cost accounting functions.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts.
  • Performs financial statement analysis to explain variances in business unit results.
  • Communicates directly with business unit personnel on accounting and general business issues.
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions.
  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Identifies and recommends ways to improve accounting processes.
  • Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
