About The Position

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity Press, this position will primarily serve authors and other royalty-based payees by providing accurate record keeping and reporting for royalty and licensing transactions. This position will also serve staff and management by ensuring proper accounting of financial records according to generally accepted accounting principles and InterVarsity policies and procedures.

  • Flexibility to attend the Urbana Student Missions Conference every six years, Dec. 26-Jan.1, and National Staff Conference every three years (the year after Urbana), approximately Jan. 2-7
  • At least three years of relevant accounting experience
  • Typically an undergraduate degree
  • Experience working within complex financial systems
  • Experience with royalty systems is preferred

  • May have relevant accounting certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and understanding the financial terms of royalty contracts/agreements.
  • Entering of royalty contracts and other relevant data into the accounting system.
  • Auditing quarterly, semi-annual & annual royalty reports and entering necessary adjustments.
  • Maintaining payee contact information
  • Assisting authors, agents, beneficiaries, and Editorial staff with royalty related inquiries.
  • Serving as backup for preparing journal entries utilizing applicable systems, reconciling general ledger accounts and resolving discrepancies.
  • Preparing audit workpapers as assigned; working with external auditors to provide an understanding of processes and supporting documentation.
  • Developing operational procedures and documentation of process flows including development of checklists.
  • Supporting internal customers by researching questions and investigating variances.
  • Ensuring proper retention, filing, and handling of accounting records.
  • Preparing other reports and assisting in special projects as required.
  • Providing suggestions and ideas on process and workflow improvement.
  • Completing any other duties as required
  • Staying current with computer programs InterVarsity Press uses to support the above functions.
  • Attending training as necessary.
  • Analyzing accounts, records, reports, advances receivable and royalties payable, general and subsidiary ledgers and other accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigating and resolving accounting problems for areas of responsibility.
  • Preparing monthly financial information and analyzing variances.
  • Assisting with external audits.
