About The Position

The Accountant 3 position with the Department of Human Services offers a chance to support important programs that help communities across the state. Requirements

  • One year as an Accountant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting
  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation
  • A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting methods, policies, and reports related to federal reimbursement and state-operated facilities
  • Review federal and state rules to ensure all financial activities meet required standards and regulations
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports for programs such as HealthChoices and disproportionate share payments
  • Lead a team of accountants working on cost analysis, audits, and financial determinations for state facilities
  • Assist with cost apportionment systems and guide program offices on financial procedures and reimbursement requirements
  • Coordinate initiatives involving federal claiming, revenue enhancements, and information technology (IT) needs for the bureau
