About The Position

The University of New Mexico is seeking an Accountant 3 to join the Department of Dental Medicine, Division of Dental Services. The Department of Dental Medicine has a primary mission of delivering education and a full spectrum of clinical care. The Department of Dental Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque is looking for a full-time Accountant 3 to participate in the development of, and to oversee implementation and administration of Dental’s policies, systems, and procedures when it comes to budget, index, and other financial functions for department. Additionally, this position will mainly help prepare financial and operational analysis for all dental divisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or Accounting
  • Experience in UNM Budget process
  • Experience with UNM Banner, Chrome River, and HR Reports
  • Knowledge of School of Medicine Internal Procedures dealing with accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily processing and accounting for revenue and expenditures by departments; reviews and reports financial transactions to funding sources; ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with university, local, state, and federal requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures.
  • Monitors and maintains key accounting information for the operating unit within the finance system.
  • Interprets and analyzes financial operations and transactions, forecasts trends, and develops special complex reports and analyses for management and funding agencies; makes recommendations for asset utilization and expenditure control.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate revenue levels by actions such as letter of credit draw downs and cost reimbursement or fee-for-service billings; oversees major liability accounts for the organization.
  • Designs complex accounting and database applications for personal computers; balances and maintains ledgers for the automated financial and human resource management systems.
  • If in a core office, monitors and maintains appropriate revenue levels by actions such as letter of credit draw downs and cost reimbursement or fee-for-service billings; oversees major liability accounts for the organization.
  • May supervise personnel which may include recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  • May serve on University committees that develop accounting policies and procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
