About The Position

The Accountant 3 performs professional-level finance, accounting, and fiscal control functions under general supervision. This lead role also serves as backup to the agency’s payroll liaison for the State Accounting Office (SAO) Payroll Shared Services. The position is with the Insurance Department of the State of Georgia.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and two years of professional accounting job-related experience; or two years of experience at the lower-level Accountant 2 (FIP021) or an equivalent position.

Responsibilities

• Submit payroll transmittals and assist with verifying and checking payroll for errors from SAO Payroll Shared Services, including communicating issues concerning employee pay and deductions.
• Assist with managing local administration and accounting functions in the statewide travel reimbursement system (CONCUR).
• Process travel expense reimbursements.
• Process miscellaneous payments, including one-time and monthly recurring invoices.
• Process purchase orders, requisition invoices, and ad hoc payments.
• Process banking settlements for expense, ad hoc, and procurement settlements.
• Assist with processing local distributions to counties and municipalities for the Premium Tax department.
• Assist with preparing, balancing, reconciling, and submitting the annual salary and travel report for approval.
• Assist with preparing, balancing, reconciling, and submitting the annual per diem report for approval.
• Assist in managing agency asset management.
• Manage agency risk management functions, including reconciliation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
