About The Position

The Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) is seeking talented individuals to join their team and help achieve the goal of honoring the contributions and sacrifices of Arizona’s public safety employees by providing outstanding service to those who protect and govern our state. Requirements

  • Generally accepted accounting practices and principles (GAAP).
  • Principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting and fiscal management.
  • Applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • Methods and techniques of data processing as it relates to accounting practices.
  • Established practices of budget preparation and control.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operations use.
  • Reconciling accounts, records, reports and journals.
  • Reviewing and verifying accuracy of data.
  • Preparing financial and/or auditor statements, schedules and reports.
  • Review, audit and analysis of complex accounting and financial reports.
  • Advanced skill in using Microsoft Excel for data validation and re-engineering processes with the ability to produce and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Organize own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Make sound, independent judgments within established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the position's area of responsibility.
  • Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation to include credit and criminal history.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a closely related field required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the financial reporting manager on the preparation of various year-end financial reporting schedules including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), Cancer Insurance Plan Annual Financial Report (AFR), Governmental Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 68 (GASB 68), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 75 (GASB 75).
  • Assist in monthly cash/bank reconciliations.
  • Work with the controller and financial reporting manager on aging reports, cash journal entries, and other general ledger reconciliations.
  • Communicate with internal department heads and personnel along with external organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts, exchange information and streamline all processes to maximize efficiency.
  • Coordinate the nightly interface file from Sub-Ledger to the General Ledger.
  • Assist IT if the interface fails for any reason, fix incorrect account mappings and/or GL maintenance.
