About The Position

The Accountant 2 position involves analyzing expenses, managing the prepaid process, and supporting the corporate fixed assets process in alignment with Accounting Guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role is crucial for validating month-end processing, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and preparing detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts and third-party statements. The Accountant 2 will also identify and recommend solutions for posting errors or employee issues, document compliance issues, and manage reconciliation approvals through a dedicated system. A key aspect of this role is partnering with operational departments to maintain clean reconciliations and minimize impact on members. Additionally, the Accountant 2 will serve as a coach or mentor to colleagues.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or Business from an accredited university or equivalent mix of education and experience is required.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of similar or closely related work experience.
  • Demonstrated success in professional Accounting, Financial Reporting and/or decision support.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and strategic and creative thinking abilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for achieving results.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting requirements as they pertain to financial institutions.
  • Passion for accuracy.
  • Builds collaborative and productive relationships in the branch.
  • Demonstrates effective time management.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant software including Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Experience in the public accounting environment is preferred.
  • Experience with Blackline strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze expenses paid by the organization and manage the prepaid process to align with proper Accounting Guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Support the Corporate Fixed Assets process, including understanding guidelines and acceptable asset lives in accordance with GAAP principles.
  • Validate that all key reconciliations and month-end processing are complete prior to the posting of any financial reporting information.
  • Review all equity, asset, and liabilities accounts and monthly financial information for accuracy, enhancing the integrity of financial reports.
  • Prepare reconciliation of general ledger accounts as well as third-party statements to the general ledger.
  • Resolve all outstanding items in compliance with reconciliation procedures.
  • Document and report any compliance issues to management.
  • Manage reconciliation approvals through the reconciliation system.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly dashboards to reflect current reconciliation status.
  • Partner with operational departments and lines of business to maintain and keep reconciliations clean to minimize impact to members and member accounts.
  • Make recommendations to management of any procedure violations that are not cured within 60 days.
  • Serve as a coach or mentor for colleagues.
