About The Position

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic professional to serve in the department’s Accountant 2 position. This position is responsible for a wide-variety of fiscal support tasks and activities in a heavily research-active, academic department. The individual in this position will work closely with the department’s Accountant 3 and/or Department Administrator to assist in maintaining and processing financial information for both restricted and unrestricted indices within the department. Position requires preparing financial reports, statements, and projections using standard and fund accounting principles, methods and applications on an automated accounting system or spreadsheets, reconciling, balancing and maintaining standard accounting records, preparing and monitoring budgets and/or other fiscal tracking mechanisms using finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control procedures, and Contract and Grants pre-award submissions and management. This position requires strong financial, organizational, and communication skills. The successful candidate will process routine financial documents, various fiscal transactions, and assist in the development and maintenance of unrestricted/restricted budgets. Individual chosen will also assist the Accountant 3 with preparing quarterly balances for restricted indices, and will respond to a variety of fiscal-related inquiries. They will perform standard financial entries, journal vouchers, analyze routine financial data, revenue/expense projections, and ensure adherence to funding regulations and/or university policies. Candidate will serve as back-up for purchases, reimbursement requests, LoboMart, and graduate assistantship contracts. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of constituents in a very diverse work environment. This person should be proficient in using independent judgement to manage a variety of situations, along with confidential and sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience with processing Purchase Orders, Journal Vouchers, booking and reimbursement of travel, and pre-award submissions
  • Experience with post-award fiscal management
  • Proficient in researching using analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to interact with various department personnel in a team environment
  • Experience with the development and implementation of fiscal operational policies and procedures
