About The Position

As a Small Business Account Manager, you'll own a dedicated book of commercial insurance clients and serve as their trusted advisor for coverage, renewals, and ongoing service needs. You'll build strong relationships, identify opportunities to strengthen coverage, and deliver the proactive service that keeps clients with Alera for the long term. This is a great opportunity for a P&C professional who enjoys combining client service, insurance expertise, and relationship management to make a direct impact on client retention and growth.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience with a carrier, broker, wholesaler, or similar insurance organization.
  • Active Property & Casualty Insurance License.
  • Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance products and coverages.
  • Demonstrated client service and relationship management skills.
  • Strong communication, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and agency management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and strong follow-through.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Commercial insurance experience.
  • Experience managing or supporting a book of small commercial business.
  • Professional insurance designation such as CISR, CIC, CRM, CPCU, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a dedicated book of small commercial clients with a focus on retention, service excellence, and account growth.
  • Lead the renewal process by evaluating exposures, identifying coverage gaps, and recommending insurance solutions that meet each client's needs.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, providing guidance on coverage and proactively addressing questions, service needs, and potential risks.
  • Prepare and review proposals, quotes, insurance summaries, and other client-facing materials.
  • Coordinate policy changes, certificates, endorsements, billing matters, claims support, and other account service needs.
  • Identify cross-sell and referral opportunities and connect clients with additional Alera Group solutions when appropriate.
  • Build strong carrier relationships and maintain knowledge of carrier appetites, products, and available market solutions.
  • Maintain accurate client and policy information while following established workflows, compliance requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to a 95% client retention goal through proactive communication, strong follow-through, and exceptional service.
