About The Position

Under the direction of the Billing Supervisor, the main functions of the Account Clerk 2 include processing water payments, providing customer service and the ability to utilize the Departments software, equipment and other resources to manage the day-to-day operations of the Department in an efficient and effective manner. This role involves processing customer payments and inquiries, operating a remote check scanner, and providing customer feedback via multiple channels. The position also includes performing general accounting functions, calculating and printing utility bills, checking consumption reports, setting up payment plans, and entering/tracking work orders for the field crew. Additionally, the Account Clerk 2 will assist the Supervisor with directing field crews, preparing shut-off lists, and creating transfer, disconnect, and change of address orders. The role requires performing various clerical tasks, staying informed of current guidelines and procedures, participating in staff meetings and departmental activities, attending training for professional development, and meeting all job safety requirements. Cross-training other employees and performing other related duties as assigned are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Eighteen (18) months’ experience or training in general accounting/bookkeeping, financial recordkeeping
  • Eighteen (18) months’ experience or training with modern office equipment (e.g., computer)
  • Proficient with typing/data entry and a 10-key calculator
  • Proficient with a 10-key calculator
  • Use of modern office equipment (e.g., check scanner, receipt validator)
  • Ability to work and handle many interruptions
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form
  • Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors
  • Ability to prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation
  • Ability to respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to code items from one symbolic form to another
  • Ability to maintain records according to established procedures

Responsibilities
