About The Position

Under general supervision, the Accessibility Technologist II provides professional accessibility technology support and consultation to advance equitable access to digital content, instructional materials, assistive technology, and technology systems across the University. The incumbent administers assistive technology environments, supports accessibility compliance, delivers training and technical guidance, and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and campus technology partners to identify and remediate accessibility barriers in accordance with CSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI), ADA, Section 508, and WCAG requirements.

Requirements

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Thorough knowledge of accessibility standards, guidelines, and regulations
Strong knowledge of assistive technologies
Working knowledge of user-centered design and user testing, interaction design principles, and user testing methods
Demonstrated knowledge of how assistive technology is used by persons with accessibility needs to access information electronically and/or through standard print.
Proficiency in using accessibility evaluation tools and software
Strong project planning and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and initiatives
Strong analytical skills to evaluate accessibility needs and concerns as well as accessibility policy compliance to develop sound conclusions and recommendations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to present information and ideas and advise managers, staff, and faculty regarding accessibility policies and procedures
Ability to evaluate digital tools and applications for accessibility conformance
Strong attention to detail and quality control
Strong knowledge of accessibility, best practices and emerging assistive technologies

Responsibilities

Administer and maintain the University’s assistive technology infrastructure by configuring, deploying, upgrading, troubleshooting, and supporting assistive technology hardware, software, laboratories, and satellite workstations; managing equipment lifecycle planning, licensing, inventory, and vendor support; and ensuring compatibility across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and web-based platforms to provide reliable, secure, and accessible technology services for students, faculty, and staff while maintaining compliance with campus IT and accessibility standards.
Monitor system performance, utilization, and technology trends by tracking usage metrics, preparing operational reports, and evaluating emerging assistive technologies to support strategic planning, continuous service improvement, and informed procurement decisions.
Operate a campus golf cart, as needed, to transport assistive technology equipment and provide on-site support across campus.
Develop and deliver accessibility education, training, and outreach programs by creating accessible instructional materials, facilitating individual and group training sessions, conducting workshops on assistive technologies, digital accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning, and participating in ATI and campus outreach initiatives to increase campus-wide accessibility awareness, improve the adoption of accessible practices, and support equitable access to instructional and administrative technology.
Serve as the campus technical resource on assistive technology and accessible instructional practices by providing consultation, guidance, and technical support to faculty, staff, and students, both in person and virtually, to promote the effective implementation of accessibility best practices.
Provide technical consultation and accessibility compliance services by evaluating digital content, instructional materials, software applications, websites, and technology procurements; conducting accessibility reviews; and assessing vendor accessibility documentation, including VPATs.
Research accessible technology solutions and collaborate with Student Accessibility Services, ATI leadership, Risk Management, ADA Compliance, and campus departments to develop alternative access plans to ensure compliance with WCAG, Section 508, the ADA, and CSU Accessible Technology Initiative requirements while minimizing institutional accessibility risk.
Provide lead work direction for student assistants and support staff assigned to assistive technology operations by assisting with recruitment, training, work assignments, scheduling, workflow prioritization, technical guidance, quality review, and ongoing mentoring, in order to ensure efficient operations, consistent service delivery, and high-quality technical support for assistive technology services.
Support the administration and continuous improvement of the University’s accessibility program by preparing compliance documentation, accessibility audit reports, program metrics, and planning materials; coordinating ATI Steering Committee activities; and maintaining program, purchasing, grant, and travel records.
Support division and campus initiatives to meet reporting requirements, advance institutional accessibility goals, and ensure compliance with CSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) objectives and regulatory standards.
Perform other classification related duties as assigned by the management.
