About The Position

SUNY Broome Community College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track Accessibility Specialist in the Accessibility Resources Office. Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Learning and Student Success, the Accessibility Specialist supports the College's educational mission by ensuring the provision of necessary accommodations and support services for students with disabilities. In addition, this position coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Testing Center.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational or School Psychology, Communication Disorders, Rehabilitative Counseling, or related field required.
  • Three (3) years experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 and/or the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and 2008 (ADAAA).
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as it relates to post-secondary education.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from the employer.

  • Training and experience preferred in assessing and diagnosing specific learning disabilities using appropriate diagnostic instruments, e.g., the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales (WAIS-IV), and the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational batteries (WJ-IV).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake and review documentation to determine eligibility for disability support services and appropriate accommodations.
  • Meet with students to assess individual needs, strengths, learning styles, and academic goals, and develop appropriate support strategies.
  • Coordinate and implement accommodations and support services for students with a range of disabilities.
  • Provide academic coaching in study skills, organization, time management, self-advocacy, transition skills, and the use of assistive technology.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with applicable laws and reporting requirements.
  • Assist faculty and staff in providing appropriate accommodations and supporting the academic needs of students with disabilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and campus departments, community agencies, and other support resources.
  • Develop and provide professional development, training, and workshops for faculty, staff, student employees, and community organizations.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across campus and participate in College committees, shared governance, and professional development activities.
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the Testing Center, including scheduling and administering exams, maintaining exam security, and ensuring approved accommodations are properly implemented.
  • Train, schedule, and provide guidance to testing proctors and student employees; troubleshoot testing and assistive technology issues as needed.
  • Maintain Testing Center policies, procedures, documentation, and utilization data, and recommend improvements to accessibility, operations, and customer service.

Benefits

  • The minimum annual salary for this position is $67,353. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
