About The Position

Through Educational Outreach and Student Services, this position facilitates the interactive process between students, faculty, and other appropriate entities to determine accommodations for students with disabilities; Provides consultative services to departments, faculty, staff, and University programs to ensure compliance with government regulations, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as ASU policies; Educates departments, faculty and staff on the ADA and assists in facilitating accommodations for equal access.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
• Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License upon employment and have an acceptable driving record, which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39-month period from date of hire.
• Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Counseling, Educational Psychology or related field AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a closely related position; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
• Master's degree in Higher Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education or other relevant field.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in a Higher Education Setting.
• Experience working with students taking in-person and online courses.
• Experience coordinating services and determining accommodations for students with disabilities, including experience evaluating disability documentation.
• Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders in and outside the University.
• Ability to apply critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills related to analysis and determining solutions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current federal and state laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and directives pertaining to ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, and other medical and disability practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of ASU Sun Devil Way and Educational Outreach and Student Services Goals.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a consultant for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) related programs, policies, and procedures related to compliance and the promotion of University opportunities for students with disabilities on all ASU campuses, including ASU Online.
• Works collaboratively with departments regarding the determination and implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities.
• Interprets and assists with revision of policies and develops disability/ADA procedures relating to faculty and staff.
• Monitors disability/ADA procedures, and provides consultative services to students, faculty and staff as appropriate.
• Establishes processes and works towards prompt and equitable resolution of issues and inquiries from faculty, staff, and the public regarding disability compliance.
• Reviews functional limitations, assesses course and/or program requirements to identify any barriers that may impact equal access.
• Makes determinations of accommodations, service and other solutions for ensuring access.
• Researches, revises, and disseminates current documentation and communications regarding state and federal laws and regulations, best practices, and University employment policies and procedures on the rights of persons with disabilities and means of providing appropriate accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
• Performs due diligence review, research, or referrals regarding complaints or possible violations related to the ADA.
• Meets with students to determine current accessibility needs requiring accommodations and provides ongoing support for the duration of their academic career.
• Coordinates referrals to appropriate resources both within the university and in the community.
• Provide information to prospective students and their parents regarding services, university resources, transition questions and concerns, documentation guidelines, and the process for determining reasonable accommodations.
• Work collaboratively with high schools, community colleges, universities, Vocational Rehabilitation and other community agencies to provide ongoing support for students.
• Provide timely and responsive service to students.
• Work with faculty and staff to ensure an optimal learning environment is created for students.
• Conduct presentations, develop programming, and engage with various departments and agencies in order to ensure collaborative support for students with disabilities.
• Maintain confidential files and records.
• Participate in university committees.
• Stay current on theories, best practices, and current legislation related to disability issues, developmental education, and student development.
• Support and participate in spirit, pride, and tradition initiatives.
• Duties as otherwise assigned.
