About The Position

Join an organization where learning and community engagement come together. As an Access Services Library Assistant, you play an important part in helping patrons find what they need. This is an advanced library clerical position in the Access Services section of the State Library involving the application of complex and technical library procedures. This role offers a positive setting where your ideas and teamwork matter. You will help keep library services running with energy and purpose. This position supports daily library operations by carrying out advanced clerical tasks in the Access Services section. The role focuses on circulation work, patron assistance, stacks care, and collaboration across departments.

Requirements

  • Two years of library - clerical experience; or One year as a Library Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
  • An associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science may be substituted for the required experience.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and organize Access Services procedures with colleagues
  • Handle circulation tasks and resolve inquiries using the ALMA Integrated Library System
  • Assist visitors at service points including scheduled reference desk coverage
  • Carry out shelf reading, paging, inventory work, and special projects using multiple classification systems
  • Support interlibrary loan processes and locate overdue or missing items
  • Sort and prepare materials for discard, rehousing, or bindery
