About The Position

The Academic Technology and Services Specialist ensures the reliable operation, support, and continuous improvement of technology in classrooms, computer labs, meeting spaces, and other academic venues across the University. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, campus partners, and IT colleagues, this position helps develop and implement standards, policies, processes, and best practices that enhance academic technology services and support the University's educational mission. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver who enjoys providing exceptional customer service, communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, and is committed to delivering reliable, innovative technology solutions that support teaching and learning.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, required.
  • 0-2 years relevant experience, required.
  • Knowledge of academic technologies, training, and multimedia use in education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of audiovisual equipment, including but not limited to: microphones, mixers, video switchers, loudspeakers, projectors, laptop computers.
  • Experience with sound mixing video switching for live events.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and make quick, sound decisions while multitasking.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, AD, SIS and LMS systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with outside talent, University community, and other technicians.
  • Skill in working independently with minimal supervision while following through on delegated tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or two-year program in computer sciences or related field, preferred.
  • Knowledge of lighting, sound, video design and terminology is strongly preferred.
  • Some knowledge of installed audiovisual systems and integrated multi-media control systems.
  • Experience with Dante, NDI, Stream Deck, and Epson projector management.

Responsibilities

  • Fields Help Desk requests via phone, email, and walk-ins, creating/updating tickets with notes and organizing tickets according to priority.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves computer software, hardware, and networking problems for users of University resources in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all classroom, conference room, and lab computers are updated, patched, and interfacing properly with audiovisual equipment.
  • Communicates technical solutions clearly in a friendly and professional manner, demonstrating strong customer service orientation.
  • Configures, upgrades, and installs new and existing multimedia, computer hardware and software.
  • Provides group or one-on-one user training as needed for event, academic technology, or multimedia use.
  • Manage and maintain classroom technology.
  • Work with University departments to coordinate and execute event operations, providing event setup, support, and management of multimedia technology.
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation in researching solutions to problems and keeping up-to-date with current technology.
