About The Position

The Innovation Hub Coordinator will support the University of Hawai‘i West O‘ahu Academy for Creative Media (ACMWO) in advancing interdisciplinary, community-responsive, and innovation-centered initiatives funded through the Maxwell grant. The position will assist in coordinating collaborative projects that bring together students, faculty, alumni, and community professionals from fields such as creative media, art and design, history, natural sciences, computer science, and Indigenous knowledge systems. The coordinator will support the continued expansion of ACMWO’s “Innovation Hub.” This position will provide academic and operational support for faculty and/or student led interdisciplinary projects, student mentorship activities, workshops, collaborative meetings, and multimedia production needs associated with the grant initiative. The position will also help strengthen communication and coordination between participating faculty, students, alumni, and external partners. The Innovation Hub serves as a collaborative environment where students, faculty, alumni, and community professionals work together on interdisciplinary projects that integrate creativity, technology, culture, and applied problem-solving. The initiative supports the Academy for Creative Media’s broader mission of preparing students for emerging creative economies while fostering collaborative approaches to community and educational challenges. The position supports the final implementation year of the Maxwell grant by helping expand participation, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, document outcomes, and sustain Innovation Hub activities beyond the grant period.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Creative Media, Design, Communications, Education, Digital Media, Computer Science, Hawaiian Studies, or related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for supporting interdisciplinary, creative, educational, or community-based projects; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of interdisciplinary learning environments, and multimedia production tools and creative workflows as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with multimedia production tools and educational or community-based programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of multimedia production tools and creative workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software and utilize media production software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Audition), Canva, or related platforms.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and communicate effectively with individuals from various disciplinary and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute within collaborative team environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical and creative concepts to individuals with varying levels of expertise.
  • Sensitivity to working within Indigenous, local, and community-centered educational contexts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education, interdisciplinary learning environments, or grant-funded initiatives.
  • Experience supporting student projects, mentorship programs, workshops, or collaborative innovation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with design thinking, storytelling, emerging technologies, AI-assisted creative workflows, or digital humanities practices.
  • Experience with event coordination, project documentation, and community engagement.
  • Understanding of Hawai‘i-based cultural and community contexts.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students in creative or interdisciplinary project environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating and supporting interdisciplinary Innovation Hub activities, meetings, workshops, and collaborative projects.
  • Support faculty and students participating in interdisciplinary creative research and production initiatives.
  • Help facilitate collaboration between creative media students, Indigenous scholars, STEM faculty, designers, artists, historians, and community professionals.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, communication, documentation, and organization of Innovation Hub activities.
  • Support development of multimedia instructional, promotional, and project documentation materials including video, photography, audio, graphics, and digital media assets.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of student-centered innovation and storytelling projects connected to the Maxwell grant.
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and engagement of student participants and alumni collaborators.
  • Assist with management and organization of Innovation Hub equipment, production resources, and collaborative spaces.
  • Document Innovation Hub activities and outcomes for grant reporting, assessment, outreach, and future program development.
  • Assist with maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Support workshops, presentations, demonstrations, and public-facing events associated with interdisciplinary innovation initiatives.
  • Assist faculty with integrating creative media and emerging technologies into instructional and community-based projects.
  • Maintain awareness of project timelines, deliverables, and grant-related objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
