About The Position

As the Academic Success Specialist for Student Affairs, you will exercise independent professional judgment and be responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing learning assistance support for the health sciences student population on the Washington State University (WSU) Health Sciences Spokane campus. You will provide guidance to students on developing skills and strategies to enhance learning and academic success. Services will be delivered through individual appointments, workshops, in-class presentations, and the development of materials, including online content and tools for the Interprofessional Learning Commons (ILC) website. You may also assist with the development and implementation of a Peer Tutor training program, as well as support campus-wide outreach for the ILC and its associated services and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
  • Experience maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Able to travel, occasionally overnight, to other campus locations and to attend meetings, conferences, and other site locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology or other relevant field.
  • Experience providing academic support services, learning assessments, or other experience related to academic learning support.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Experience working with health sciences students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in providing academic support for learners when English is not their primary language.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain harmonious working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with varying deadlines.
  • Ability to work with diverse students, faculty/staff, and community members.

Responsibilities
