About The Position

The Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center (FDASC) is dedicated to achieving Operational Excellence in Academic Success. The team fosters a student-centered environment that encourages learning engagement, self-empowerment through support and skill development, and academic excellence. The Academic Success Coach, reporting to the Director of the FDASC, delivers comprehensive, holistic, and student-centered academic coaching. This role aims to enhance student persistence, retention, academic achievement, and timely graduation. The coach works individually with students to identify academic and personal challenges, develop effective learning strategies, and create action plans aligned with their academic and professional aspirations. Key responsibilities include collaborating with faculty, advisors, and campus partners to track academic progress, implement Early Alert interventions, and connect students with relevant campus resources. The coach will provide guidance on institutional policies, academic success strategies, time management, study skills, goal setting, self-advocacy, and personal accountability, while nurturing student confidence, resilience, and independence. In line with FDASC's commitment to operational excellence, the coach will use student success technologies, data-driven practices, and assessment tools to monitor student progress, document coaching results, identify trends, and support evidence-based decision-making. Coaches are expected to engage in professional development, contribute to academic success programs and workshops, and support departmental initiatives focused on improving student engagement, persistence, retention, and graduation rates. This position acts as a key driver of student success by building intentional relationships, utilizing data-informed coaching, and promoting operational excellence to ensure students have the necessary resources, strategies, and support to succeed academically.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least two years’ experience with teaching, mentoring, advising, career counseling, and/or providing student services in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities
