About The Position

Works directly with students, providing academic tutorial assistance in support of the material taught in grade 6 and/or grade 7 and/or grade 8 mathematics and/or literacy (reading/writing) classes. Needs to become familiar with Tutor.com to further assist students. Training will be provided. Gear Up Tutor-Mentors need to have transportation to their assigned middle school(s). The hourly rate is up to $20/hour, inclusive of transportation costs. No additional payment will be made for mileage.

Requirements

College-level coursework sufficient to provide tutoring for middle school students in mathematics and/or literacy, including reading and writing.
Knowledge and competence of fundamental mathematics concepts
Knowledge and competence in reading, writing, and verbal concepts
Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
Possess patience and positive attitudes to establish an encouraging learning environment
Organizational and time-management skills
Professional decorum and appearance
Promptness
Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment.

Responsibilities
