About The Position

The School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) within the Ira. A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking an Academic Success Advisor, Sr. to join the Undergraduate Advising team. This role provides individualized and group academic advising, as well as support for student recruitment, retention, and overall academic success. Under general supervision, the advisor will play a key role in promoting student persistence and timely degree completion in the Biomedical Engineering degree program. As a contributor to university wide student success initiatives, the advisor will employ a variety of in-person and online strategies to guide students in navigating their academic journey, ensuring progress toward graduation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience in college level academic advising, including both online and campus-based students.
  • Experience in working with student populations.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced and teamwork-focused environment.
  • Experience in delivering presentations.
  • Experience in using student information computer systems and degree audits (i.e., PeopleSoft/Oasis, DARS).
  • Experience in thinking critically to solve problems independently and as part of a group.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and theories in public and higher education and college advising.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience in using database programs (Analytics, Salesforce).
  • Experience in assisting with special events.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective professional working relationships.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills (verbal and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of a master’s degree in higher education or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group academic advising to online and campus-based students that supports academic success, engagement, and timely progress to graduation.
  • Support students to resolve challenges by having current knowledge and making appropriate referrals to ASU services including, but not limited to, Student Health, ASU Counseling Services and the Fulton Career Center.
  • Work closely with students to identify academic options such as: degree programs, extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research opportunities, or internships that align with academic and career goals.
  • Provide administrative support related to student enrollment, registration, orientation, retention and degree completion while maintaining comprehensive and accurate student records using a variety of software and data sources.
  • Inform students of and enforce university, college and program level academic policies and procedures.
  • Organize and participate in ASU and FSE initiatives and efforts aimed at recruiting, engaging and retaining students.
  • Consult with program chairs, faculty, colleagues and students to support SBHSE students to proceed efficiently through their curriculum and navigate setbacks.
  • Takes ownership of major projects, as assigned by leadership.
