About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean, this position provides essential technical support to the Arts, Engineering, Trades and Technology department, specifically within the HRAC, GAST, and 313A/D programs. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining their assigned academic spaces and ensure all equipment is in good repair and operating both safely and effectively, while also ensuring that faculty and students have consistent access to the necessary tools and materials required for practical instruction. This position requires demonstrating and supervising the safe and efficient use of tools, machinery, and specialized equipment within the learning environment. In addition, the incumbent supports student recruitment initiatives and events both on and off-site to promote program success and industry engagement.

Requirements

Must possess a 313A Certificate of Qualification and valid TSSA G1 or G2 license
Five years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration / air conditioning installation or service.
Experience training and demonstrating skills to others
Experience with ordering supplies, inventory management, and tracking systems
Computer skills and experience using the MS Office Suite
Interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills
Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated planning, coordinating and time management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality

Responsibilities

Troubleshooting, repairing, relocating, rebuilding, and replacing academic equipment, and performing preventative maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation within assigned learning spaces.
Maintaining hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices in safe working order and sufficient quantities to minimize tool sharing during labs.
Ensuring precision measurement devices are properly calibrated and that related documentation is maintained and updated as required.
Sourcing new equipment and replacement stock as needed, locating suppliers, ordering parts, and receiving/confirming inventory within the college’s purchasing policy.
Designing, evaluating, building, and testing new equipment or training stations as required.
Procuring new equipment and replacement stock as needed, identifying suppliers, ordering parts, and receiving and verifying inventory in accordance with college purchasing policies.
Providing input on capital equipment purchases, equipment placement within lab layouts, and machine safety considerations.
Developing lab procedures to establish industry-standard safety and housekeeping protocols.
Verifying that installation and servicing requirements are properly completed within the assigned learning spaces.
Ensuring lab safety requirements are followed and equipment complies with TSSA, ESA, and CSA standards, including developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures and Hazard Identification placards.
Maintaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) records for chemicals and related supplies.
Leading workshop orientations and equipment procedures to demonstrate safe operation of specialized HVAC, gas, and refrigeration machinery to students and faculty.
Supporting hands-on learning by guiding students through equipment setup and diagnostics, interpreting technical documents, and selecting appropriate tools.
Supporting student learning by helping interpret diagnostic results and reinforcing key learning concepts for students when faculty are unavailable.
Monitoring learning environment activities to identify, isolate, and constructively correct unsafe habits, ensuring strict alignment with provincial regulatory frameworks and internal safety standards.
Collaborating with program coordinators and faculty to ensure that instructional supplies and equipment are prepared prior to scheduled project start dates.
Coordinating workshop cleanup.
Managing and archiving all required student safety contracts, user logs, and student compliance records for the assigned learning spaces.
Supporting special projects as needed, including assisting with student preparation for skills competitions.
Designing and delivering equipment demonstrations and hands-on learning activities for visiting elementary and secondary students, including preparing components in advance and guiding them in the safe use of tools and equipment to complete projects.
Supporting the development and delivery of college initiatives with employers and industry partners.
Assisting with tours for audiences ranging from elementary and secondary students to institutional administrators and government officials.
Supporting recruitment events such as Skills Competitions, PSST, Tech It Out, high school workshops, and trade shows.
