About The Position

Advising, admitting, recruiting and supporting prospective and current prelicensure students for the KUMC School of Nursing. This role provides academic and developmental support to all phases of prelicensure students in the School of Nursing (SON). It oversees processes specific to the online BSN programs such as admissions, scholarship awards, graduation checks, GPA calculations, and student records management. The specialist advises prospective students on prerequisite courses, collaborates with institutional partners, and assists candidates with the application process. They also advise current students on enrollment aspects like course scheduling, prerequisites, and sequencing. Additionally, this role assists with maintaining program guides, reviewing application files, admitting students, and implementing student programming to support performance and community. The specialist will also assist with creating individual student plans of study and participate in recruitment efforts for all SON programs, representing the School at career days and corresponding with prospective students. Other duties include implementing new student orientation, supporting ceremonies, assisting with assigned projects, and participating in School of Nursing committees.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of experience working a higher education setting. Relevant education can be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years of experience in recruiting students, personnel, or other related areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in higher education, nursing, or other related areas such as communications, liberal arts or journalism.
  • Three (3) years of experience in evaluating applications to nursing programs including academic performance, prerequisite coursework, and application essays.
  • Three (3) years of experience in admissions and recruitment for nursing programs or higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and developmental support to all phases of the prelicensure students in the School of Nursing (SON).
  • Oversee processes specific to the online BSN programs such as admissions, scholarship awards, graduation checks, GPA calculations, and student records management.
  • Advise prospective students of prerequisite courses necessary for the programs, training and collaborating with institutional partners to ensure students are properly advised of program requirements shared between schools.
  • Assist candidates with the application process.
  • Advise current students through the practical aspects of enrollment each semester, i.e. course scheduling, prerequisites, and sequencing.
  • Assist the Program Manager, Online BSN Program with maintaining accurate community college transfer and partnership program and curriculum guides, reviewing program application files and admitting community college partnership and RN-BSN students.
  • Implement student programming to support student performance and community within the School of Nursing with the Educational Programs and Outreach Manager.
  • Assist Program Directors with creation of individual student plans of study in accordance with course availability.
  • Participate in the recruitment and admission of nursing students for all programs in the School of Nursing including visiting partners schools with the Student Affairs team.
  • Represent the School of Nursing as needed at career days functions when recruitment staff are unavailable or as appropriate.
  • Correspond with and advise prospective students with questions about admissions processes and standards.
  • Implement Orientation for new and returning prior to the start of each academic year under the direction of the Associate Dean.
  • Support ceremonies (such as Recognition and Hooding Ceremony) as needed for School of Nursing.
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Student Affairs with assigned projects.
  • Participate as ex-officio in School of Nursing committees as appropriate.
