About The Position

The Academic Program Senior Specialist will support the departmental mission of fostering career-oriented proficiency for undergraduates and pedagogical preparation for graduate students. This role involves teaching Chinese language courses, training and supervising Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), engaging in curriculum development, and leading study abroad programs. The specialist will also enable the smooth functioning of the Chinese language program through administrative oversight, including scheduling and assessment, and will serve as a point of contact for student concerns. Additionally, the position will strengthen the recruitment of majors, double majors, and minors through various outreach activities.

Requirements

  • Master's Level Degree in East Asian Languages and Literatures or related field is required.
  • Near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and in English
  • 3 years of prior Chinese language teaching experience in an Anglophone college setting (for example, as a Graduate Teaching Associate, Lecturer, Teaching Faculty, Assistant Professor, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • A PhD in any of the following subfields within Chinese Studies is desirable: Linguistics, Pedagogy, Literature, Performing Arts, Cultural Studies, or related field.
  • Evidence of professional development in relation to language instruction (certificates, workshops, etc.) is desirable.
