About The Position
The Academic Instructor, PRN (as-needed basis), provides instruction in basic education subjects—including mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing, and language arts—to help inmate/students develop skills that contribute to becoming mature, responsible citizens. The instructor maintains a positive learning environment, uses secure classroom management practices, and develops lesson plans appropriate to students’ levels. The position pays $28.22 per hour.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Certificate or license required by Tennessee Department of Education standards to teach in the state of employment.
- Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Nice To Haves
- Three years of classroom instruction experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare course objectives in accordance with curriculum standards and applicable contract requirements.
- Plan a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests under general supervision.
- Provide instruction using course outlines, handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials.
- Administer tests to evaluate students’ progress and subject-matter competency.
- Assist students with individualized instruction as needed.
- Maintain a positive learning environment and use secure classroom management practices.
