About The Position

The academic dean develops and promotes an innovative and rigorous college-preparatory curriculum and offers academic support for faculty and students within the framework of the mission, philosophy, and goals of Incarnate Word Academy. This role involves leadership in curriculum development, data analysis, faculty and student support, scheduling, and administrative tasks, including managing the Learning Management System. The position requires a Master's degree in educational administration or equivalent, with significant leadership or teaching experience, strong communication and technology skills, and the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive academic environment.

Requirements

  • Holds a master’s degree in educational administration or equivalent field with at least 18 credit hours in education administration.
  • Has at least, 3-5 years of experience in similar leadership roles or 7-10 years teaching experience.
  • Thrives on a collaborative team to think creatively to solve problems.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Functions well as a leader and a team member.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation skills.
  • Embraces technology and uses it as a tool for learning (Microsoft products, iPad apps, Google apps, and classroom functionality such as SmartBoards).
  • Builds appropriate and professional mentorship relationships with students.

  • Provides leadership in curriculum development and academic planning.
  • Coordinates and maintains academic program materials, including the course catalogue and curriculum guides.
  • Promotes instructional excellence and academic accountability through lesson plan review and feedback.
  • Leads the strategic collection, organization, and analysis of academic data to support school improvement initiatives and informed decision-making (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, GPA, etc.).
  • Supports instructional leadership by collaborating on the development and facilitation of faculty in-service sessions, department chair meetings, new teacher training, and the teacher mentorship program.
  • Promotes faculty growth by researching and encouraging participation in professional development opportunities that are aligned with individual and departmental goals.
  • Promotes effective instruction through classroom observations, feedback and coaching.
  • Oversees processes that strengthen instructional quality and program effectiveness, including directing the course evaluation process.
  • Coordinates academic support processes, including the schedule for parent conferences, completion of credits for graduation, and consultation on the development of individual academic support plans.
  • Assists in planning and implementing student and parent programming, such as College Information Nights, Career Day, Wellness Assemblies, etc., to promote student readiness and engagement.
  • Communicates academic program and course options to students and incoming families, providing guidance throughout the course selection and registration process.
  • Supports student enrollment and academic advising by reviewing transfer student qualifications and assisting with interviews.
  • Coordinates with the counselors to advise students regarding course requests, graduation requirements, and appropriate placement to support individual academic success.
  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of the master schedule process, including implementing the master schedule to support effective academic programming that meets student needs.
  • Supports school leadership and institutional operations by serving on the Principal’s Leadership Team, preparing the instructional calendar, updating the school profiles, and assisting with faculty/staff and student/parent handbook development.
  • Supports faculty hiring processes by participating in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of new faculty members.
  • Coordinates and oversees key academic and community events, including Follow Your Daughter Night, Academic Awards Evening, National Honor Society Induction, and iLunch programming with the World Language Department.
  • Serves as platform manager and leads the training, implementation, and ongoing management of MyIWA as the school’s Learning Management System, ensuring effective use by faculty, students, and parents.
  • Supports academic operations within the Learning Management System by assisting the Registrar with teacher grade books and the posting of quarter and semester grades.
  • Researches academic best practices and cultivates collaborative relationships with Academic Deans and educational leaders at other Houston Catholic high schools to support continuous school improvement and innovation.
  • Supports the overall mission and operational needs of the school by carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or President.
