About The Position

Washington State University's College of Arts & Sciences is seeking an Academic Advisor for its Health Professions Student Center. This role involves providing advanced-level professional advising to students pursuing Pre-Nursing, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Nutrition Exercise and Physiology. Key responsibilities include collaborating on and coordinating student service programs, recruitment, and retention initiatives. The advisor will represent the Health Professions Student Center at university functions, advise students on career choices, course selections, academic majors, and the professional school application process. Maintaining relationships with WSU faculty and admissions offices at professional schools is also crucial. Additionally, the role involves assisting with program data collection and analysis for program development. This is a face-to-face position located in Pullman, WA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience.
  • Experience working directly with students/student services.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Academic advising for Pre-Nursing, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Nutrition Exercise and Physiology.
  • Student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Provide workshops, teaching modules, and program assessment.
  • Represent the Health Professions Student Center communicating with various Nursing and Pharmacy programs to increase matriculation rates.
  • Advise student clubs.
  • Advise students on career paths.
  • Collaborating with others and/or performing professional duties in participating and/or coordinating the development, implementation, and/or administration of student service programs and initiatives including programs of recruitment and retention activities in pre-health.
  • Representing the Health Professions Student Center at University functions.
  • Advise students concerning career choice, course choices, academic major, and application process for professional school.
  • Maintain good working relationships with faculty in degree programs at WSU and with admissions offices for the professional schools both at WSU and at other institutions.
  • Assisting with program data collection and analyzing for the purpose of program development.
