About The Position

The Academic Affairs Advisor serves as a central advocate for student-athlete success by coordinating academic support, monitoring student progress, and fostering collaboration among students, families, faculty, coaches, and campus support teams. This role proactively identifies academic, attendance, behavioral, and wellbeing concerns, develops intervention strategies, and helps students build the skills needed for academic achievement, personal growth, and long-term success. Through ongoing communication, data analysis, and cross-functional partnerships, the Academic Affairs Advisor ensures each student receives the guidance and resources necessary to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to research Federal, State, and District laws, policies, procedures, and best practices regarding student discipline
  • MS Office experience
  • Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects

Responsibilities

  • Monitor student academic performance, attendance, and overall progress, identifying concerns and coordinating timely interventions to support student success.
  • Serve as the primary liaison among students, families, teachers, coaches, athletic staff, personal development staff, and residential life staff to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Work closely with sports departments, residential life, faculty, health services, counseling services, learning support staff, and families to coordinate support plans and promote student academic success, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Coordinate academic planning and support for student travel, including communication regarding coursework, assessments, and missed instructional time.
  • Conduct regular student check-ins and partner with students to develop academic accountability, organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Collaborate with faculty and support staff to address academic, attendance, behavioral, and wellbeing concerns, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Support and monitor intervention plans, tutoring referrals, study hall requirements, and other academic support initiatives.
  • Assist with disciplinary processes by coordinating communication, monitoring academic impact, and supporting student accountability measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, interventions, attendance concerns, and family communications.
  • Utilize student performance data and dashboards to identify trends, proactively address concerns, and inform support strategies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary student support meetings and contribute to initiatives that promote student achievement, engagement, and wellbeing.
