About The Position

The Academic Advisor of Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities (SSSD) is a grant-funded position within the TRIO SSSD department. This role focuses on providing comprehensive academic, personal, financial, and career advising to students, with a particular emphasis on those with disabilities. The advisor will co-teach courses, develop programmatic materials, and collaborate with various campus offices to ensure student success. The position operates on a hybrid schedule and requires occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience working with TRIO-eligible students, multicultural populations, or under-prepared students.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students on academic, personal, financial, and career issues using data-driven advising strategies.
  • Provide students with information about educational opportunities, financial aid, career exploration, graduate school application, motivation, and self-awareness through workshops and individual counseling/advising.
  • Assess, document, and record students’ interests, needs and goals, and develop meaningful and appropriate academic interventions and services.
  • Compile eligibility information for newly accepted students and for incoming class for data analysis purposes.
  • Co-teach courses specifically to SSSD students as outlined in the TRIO/SSSD grant proposal including, but not limited to Happy Hour and ID 121.
  • Oversee the development and continual updating of programmatic policies and procedures while maintaining focus on meeting SSSD grant objectives.
  • Produce and distribute flyers, advertisements, information sheets, and other programmatic materials via our social media platforms and website.
  • Help administer corresponding programming for the SSSD Peer Leaders.
  • Coordinate with the Director, Residence Life Dean and Bon Appetit to ensure room and board for GO Week is on track.
  • Organize recruitment efforts with the Admissions Office and Financial Aid.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team development sessions, and relevant committees, as well as build new collaborations with other organizations.
  • Coordinate with Disability and Access and Deans of Students for targeted student support.
  • Foster a team-based culture that is responsive, innovative, efficient, and service-oriented.
  • Co-lead the hiring and execution of the SSSD Peer Leaders.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
