About The Position

The Academic Advisor supports Excelsior University’s strategic plan as a direct student services position. Academic Advisor I is the first step in the Academic Advising Career Ladder. This position involves direct student service to a caseload of students in a designated specialization area. The Academic Advisor I will demonstrate advising best practices consistent with the Excelsior Advising Model and the Excelsior CARES credo. We believe work should fit your life, not the other way around. Our hybrid schedule includes two days on site in our Albany office, with the flexibility to work remotely the remaining days. Spend less time commuting and more time focusing on meaningful work or personal priorities. Core hours are 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, including a 1-hour lunch, for a 37.5-hour week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in higher education or teaching, or a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate advising/coaching as it relates to student curriculum, degree planning, and institutional policy and procedure.
  • Advise students in their consideration of educational goals by relating interests, skills, abilities values to careers, the world of work, and the nature and purpose of higher education.
  • Track and report on student progress utilizing relevant platforms (Ex: Student Information Platform (SIP), Dashboards, and/or CRM).
  • Advocate for students by making referrals to Excelsior University services (e.g., career readiness, VA/financial aid, tutoring, OWL, COMPsych), and other learning support services.
  • Contribute to unit and university-wide committees and workgroups as needed.
  • Contribute to the successful achievement of Unit KPI’s through the performance evaluation and goal-setting process.
  • Engage in Professional Development that addresses your individual professional growth as well as the needs of the Advising Center. This could include participation in professional organizations and other training, both within and outside the University.
