About The Position

Iowa State University's College of Design is seeking an Academic Advisor I, an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional who is passionate about supporting student success in higher education. This position supports undergraduate students in the Interior Design and Art and Visual Cultures programs by providing academic advising related to degree planning, course selection, academic policies, graduation requirements, degree certification, and degree audits. The advisor builds meaningful relationships with students, helping them navigate their academic journey while connecting them with campus resources that promote academic success and overall wellbeing. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field (e.g., Art and Design).
  • Experience advising, mentoring, teaching, or supporting secondary school or college students.
  • Experience using student information or educational technology systems such as Workday Student or Navigate.
  • Familiarity with higher education academic policies, curriculum requirements, and graduation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Advise undergraduate students in the Interior Design and Art and Visual Cultures programs on degree planning, course selection, academic policies, and progress toward graduation.
  • Help students navigate academic and personal challenges by connecting them with campus resources that support their success and wellbeing.
  • Interpret university policies and curriculum requirements to guide students in making informed academic decisions.
  • Teach orientation courses and present at orientation programs and other student engagement events.
  • Support student recruitment initiatives and participate in outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to promote student success and continuous improvement of advising services.
