About The Position

The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed. Advises undergraduate students daily to discuss academic, personal and pre-professional concerns, registration, and degree progress using a variety of reporting tools and maintenance of appropriate records. Oversees various coordinating responsibilities, programs and activities for undergraduate students in the college. Advises students with a focus on exploration, goals, adjustment, and first year concerns. Meets with prospective students and parents providing guidance and information on the college, its majors, campus life, and student involvement. Provides assistance with new student orientation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a population from various backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Advising with a focus on exploration, adjustment and student success.
  • Ability to interpret student needs and determine appropriate recommendations and referrals.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to academic advising.
  • Ability to collaborate with various campus partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred due to the responsibilities of this position.
  • Relevant experience with Banner and DegreeWorks.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
