About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting for an Academic Advisor 2 with the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources (CABNR). This position is located on the UNR Main Campus and reports to Elizabeth Sedano, Director, Academic Success. The role involves advising students on academic matters, supporting retention efforts, participating in recruitment activities, and contributing to special projects within the college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Related experience includes: Academic advising, teaching, student services, or related fields.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Advise incoming freshmen, new students, continuing students, and transfer students on core courses and appropriate class selection for major and professional goals.
  • Conduct individual and group advising appointments.
  • Provide data related to retention and enrollment management for reports and presentations.
  • Complete and submit Admission and Records forms and processes, including removing holds, scheduling appointments, facilitating course registration, and completing advance registration for incoming students.
  • Participate in new student orientation sessions.
  • Advise students on academic probation and provide referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Create and maintain accurate student records, documenting each interaction.
  • Participate in proactive outreach related to early alert systems and communication from faculty.
  • Remain knowledgeable on academic information to best serve students and convey accurate information to staff, faculty, and students.
  • Provide analysis for measures related to retention and enrollment management.
  • Prepare population-specific and/or targeted intervention/plans.
  • Develop advising materials and presentations.
  • Participate in professional development workshops/events.
  • Participate in and support of College FIT Program.
  • Serve on program-specific councils or committees.
  • Participate in assigned special projects.
  • Provide training to peer leaders as applicable (advising, orientation, FIT, outreach).
  • Provide support to the faculty for college-specific internships.
  • Contribute to Assessment of Student Center/Advisement Office.
  • Enhance online and electronic resources related to advising.
  • Participate in on-campus and off-campus recruitment activities.
  • Assist with College Ambassadors/Student Advisory Board-type program.
  • Use of Slate (recruitment platform) for prospect management/communication with prospective students.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communication specialist.
  • Develop materials for and enhance online and electronic resources related to recruitment.
  • Organize college sessions for on-campus recruitment activities.
  • Coordinate student and faculty representatives for on-campus and off-campus recruitment activities.
  • Assist with recruitment of special populations (e.g., National Merit students, those in high test score categories, underrepresented groups, first-generation students).
  • Establish and maintain contacts with community colleges.
  • Serve on the College Scholarship Committee and other assigned campus committees.
  • Act as Campus Liaison (e.g., Athletics, Honors, LLC) to assigned departments.
  • Oversee running Dean’s List and working with the Dean’s office to get letters out.
  • Support Academic Recovery Programming.
