The Senior Academic Advisor provides academic advising to undergraduate students in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. The role advises students individually and in groups across a variety of majors and programs, with an emphasis in one of the areas served by Natural Sciences Advising. Advising includes ongoing communication with students; course selection and graduation planning; pre-health and career-path planning; degree petitions; and support for students’ academic and non-academic needs. The advisor also helps with Spring, Summer, and Fall Orientation sessions. The position oversees the redesign of a spring student-success program for first-year students who had an academically challenging first semester, moving it from a class-based experience to individual and small-group coaching and creating and supervising student mentor roles. It also oversees the advising office’s student-programming budget and initiatives, and coordinates the fall student-success initiative that gives undergraduates struggling in selected STEM courses the opportunity to transition mid-semester to less advanced courses in the same areas. The advisor participates in Natural Sciences Advising, College of Natural Sciences, and UT Austin projects, focus groups, and committees, and supports special projects and College events as assigned. This is an on-campus position with in-office attendance, in general office conditions and during usual office hours. The role is scheduled for 40 hours per week and is expected to continue.
