About The Position

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled to advanced craft-mechanical HVAC systems work in various maintenance and service tasks for the school district. Employees in this classification function with considerable independence and latitude in judgment concerning methods, materials, and priority of assigned work orders. Work areas include, but are not necessarily limited to, performing preventative maintenance on HVAC system components, servicing air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the functional area of assignment. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years progressively knowledgeable and skilled air conditioning, or refrigeration trades work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical specifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license
  • Training in refrigerant handling and recovery when assigned to air conditioning and refrigeration systems

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules; monitors systems functioning for the purpose of recognizing potential problems; addresses such accordingly.
  • Performs skilled to advanced craft-mechanical air conditioning, water treatment, or refrigeration systems work in various installation, repair, maintenance and service tasks for the school district.
  • Observes and tests malfunctioning systems to determine cause and appropriate corrective action; reads blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals as applicable to new installations or assigned service/repair orders.
  • Installs, maintains or services air conditioning, water treatment or refrigeration components, controls and systems for the district, as applicable to the assigned functional area.
  • Installs, services or replaces components including, but not limited to, compressors, window units, electric motors, control units, fans, blowers, pumps, valves, piping, screens, filters, switches, sensors, lines, pressure gauges, drain pans, and valves.
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, and replaces electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic control systems and devices.
  • Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building, and safety standards regarding air conditioning, refrigeration, and water treatment service and repair activities.
  • Fills out and maintains work orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies and equipment; maintains daily activity logs and associated data records concerning the assigned air conditioning or water treatment system(s).
  • Performs necessary calculations in setting and adjustment of controls, setting feed and flow rates, measuring conductivity, and measuring pipe dimensions, line layout, angles and distances.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles utilized; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe equipment use and operation.
  • Responds to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent environmentally hazardous conditions.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS.
  • With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
