About The Position

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking an Airframe MRB / Liaison Engineer for its Engineering department in Mobile, Alabama. The A320 Family MAP Structures Design Engineer is a technical, operational role responsible for developing, justifying, and approving design solutions for aircraft primary- and secondary-structure non-conformities. The role works directly in the Final Assembly Line, flight line, and delivery center, serving as a functional interface between local manufacturing operations and Airbus Design Offices and Chief Engineering networks around the world. The position delivers timely, structurally sound solutions that support production while safeguarding aircraft safety and continued airworthiness. It covers metallic and composite airframe structures across relevant ATA chapters. The engineer resolves or mitigates shop-floor deviations, damage, and concessions in accordance with Airbus design principles, supports aircraft throughout manufacturing through delivery, and represents the engineering function in technical coordination and customer discussions.

  • Release standard structural repair instructions autonomously and coordinate major rework through global Airbus engineering departments.
  • Serve as a functional interface on the shop floor between Chief Engineering and Design Offices, local Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance.
  • Review and interpret complex design data, prepare materials for technical briefings, and provide relevant engineering input.
  • Develop, validate, and authorize design solutions and repair drawings for deviations identified during assembly, outfit inspection, or production flights; meet site SLA quality, completeness, and lead-time thresholds.
  • Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering office and global Design Offices by delegation; coordinate with overseas engineering and centers of competency to resolve complex, non-standard structural problems.
  • Provide on-site structures engineering support from initial section delivery through the final delivery flight, explain technical matters to relevant departments, and represent engineering during customer acceptance negotiations.
  • Launch and monitor design improvements, permanent modification drawings, drawing updates, and Design Query Notes to address recurring industrial defects and improve product performance.
  • Work with Airbus Americas and European Engineering to align local assembly-line solutions with global engineering methods and design principles.
  • Represent the local manufacturing site and engineering perimeter in international technical working groups to resolve cross-border anomalies and build cross-functional consensus.
  • Share technical expertise and provide functional guidance and mentoring to team members in the structural design perimeter.
  • Present and explain complex structural repair configurations to internal and external customers, suppliers, and the flight test department.
