About The Position

Handles all emergency and non-emergency communication by radio and/or telephone relative to police, medical, and fire. This is a shift work position for a 24/7 operation. You will be an at will employee who may be called to respond and assist for any critical incidents.

Requirements

  • Must be able to think and act clearly in stressful situations and emergencies.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly and possess good listening skills.
  • Must have ability to reduce rambling and disconnected messages from callers into concise, accurate messages to emergency responders.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a working knowledge of radio/dispatch procedures and basic computer system.
  • Should have the ability to type and enter data via computer keyboard in timely fashion.
  • Minimum of 35 WPM.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation and a criminal history check.
  • Must attain a Level II ACIC/NCIC certification within 12 months of date of employment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Nice To Haves

  • One to five years of previous dispatch experience will be taken into consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and handle all incoming 911 and non-emergency calls for Police and Fire, as well as 911 calls for medical.
  • Radio dispatch the appropriate emergency responder to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Determine call criteria and appropriate response.
  • Enter calls for service into the Motorola Flex system.
  • Communicate with police, fire, and medical via radio.
  • Query and enter information into law enforcement systems for warrants, criminal history, missing persons, and stolen property.
  • Communicate with other agencies via ACIC and telephone.
