About The Position

Bethlehem Christian Academy is seeking an 8th Grade Health & PE Teacher and Head Varsity Volleyball Coach. This role is responsible for teaching Health and Physical Education to 8th-grade students and coaching the Varsity Volleyball team. The position operates on a 10-month schedule and reports to the Head of School, with the Athletic Director serving as the direct supervisor for coaching duties.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain a current ACSI certificate or any other requirements as set for by the school’s accrediting agency.
  • Must possess a high level of organizational skills evidenced in planning.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism and ability to relate to students, faculty/staff, and families in a pleasant, friendly manner.
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision and to manage multiple projects and work assignments with a variety of faculty/staff and/or volunteers.
  • Skill in the utilization of technology and proficiency in using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and instruct employees and students.
  • Complete Background check, CPR, First Aid, and other required health and safety trainings.
  • Overtly support and act in accordance with the school's Statement of Faith, mission, purpose, and philosophy.

  • The job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.

  • Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

  • The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
  • Understands and implements the BCA curricular program as provided by administration, department chairs, and as outlined in Curriculum Trak.
  • Follows and develops as necessary engaging and relevant Unit Plans using the Understanding by Design method.
  • Participate as requested in Vertical Mapping (K-12) and data analysis planning sessions to ensure grade-level specific goals are current and consistent.
  • Regularly uses both formative and summative assessment strategies to provide frequent student feedback.
  • Reviews, revises, and develops as needed assessments that authentically reflect student achievement of targeted knowledge and skills, re-assessing as needed for continuous student growth.
  • Designs, develops, and implements engaging Learning Plans (daily lesson plans) that help students achieve mastery of the knowledge and skill objectives for each unit of study.
  • Incorporates BCA Key Instructional Strategies are relevant to content area including, but not limited to: Inquiry-based learning, Harkness Method, Music/Movement/Magic, and High-Quality Project-Based Learning (HQPBL).
  • Establishes a healthy, life-giving, joyful classroom culture that is conducive to learning and provides the academic safety that encourages growth and exploration of a student’s interests.
  • Ensures adequate supervision and takes all necessary precautions to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Support co-curricular programming specific to jobs such as coordination of art shows, concerts, special performances, and student showcases.
  • Ability to positively interact with children, parents, and staff in a pleasant, friendly manner.
  • Represent the school effectively to its constituents.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the assigned athletic team.
  • Flexible to work with middle school and elementary feeder programs.
  • Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes.
  • Work cooperatively with other head athletic coaches to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
  • Foster among the athletes, parents, and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, and school.
  • Work directly with the strength and conditioning coach to help with the training, conditioning, and performance of the athletic team.
  • Lead, supervise, and assist other coaches in their efforts with teams assigned to them.
  • Be present and personally direct the team at all contests and to be present at as many other team’s games as possible.
  • Recommend to the athletic director the type and quantity of equipment/supplies needed to conduct a successful program.
  • Ensure uniforms and equipment are accounted for and well maintained.
  • Perform other duties related to the position of athletic coach requested by the athletic director.
