About The Position

GLOW Academy is seeking a passionate and committed 6th Grade ELA Teacher who believes in supporting student mastery of content and fostering critical thinking skills for college and career success. The ideal candidate will embrace the philosophy that potential, not zip code, determines a student's future and believes in the power of single-gender education to help all students succeed. GLOW Academy focuses on "whole girl" education, nurturing leadership, confidence, and family support within a rigorous college preparatory program. This includes emphasizing leadership development, early college and career awareness, health and wellness, and expanded opportunities in STEM and the arts to ensure a successful 6-12 experience and college readiness.

Requirements

  • NC Teacher Certification in the subject area and relevant grades.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach middle school with a passion for and competency in 6th Grade ELA.
  • Experience in teaching middle school ELA.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a warm and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement positive behavior practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students and families to support student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate rigorous and engaging lessons aligned to the content standards outlined in the NC Standard Course of Study.
  • Awareness of educational issues regarding the academic and social development of a diverse population of students, including minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent girls from high needs neighborhoods/communities.
  • Possession of a valid TB test issued by the local county board of health or recognized medical authority is required for employment.

  • Experience teaching the North Carolina State Standards for 6th Grade ELA Teacher.
  • Competence to teach in a diverse and ever-changing learning environment.
  • A desire to continue to grow and learn as teachers, taking risks, and refining their teaching.
  • Experience in teaching middle school ELA.

Responsibilities

  • Support student mastery of English Language Arts content.
  • Foster critical thinking skills in students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school families to achieve the school's vision.
  • Develop and facilitate rigorous and engaging lessons aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study for 6th Grade ELA.
  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement positive behavior practices.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families to support student success.
  • Address educational issues regarding the academic and social development of a diverse population of students, including minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent girls.
