About The Position

ACCEL Schools is hiring a 4th/5th Grade Science Teacher at Cleveland Arts & Social Sciences Academy in Cleveland, Ohio. The role is focused on bringing the curriculum to life, creating a positive classroom environment, and prioritizing student learning and social-emotional development. The school serves the Buckeye-Shaker community and nearby neighborhoods with a hands-on college-preparatory curriculum emphasizing the arts and humanities, small-group learning, educational technology, and specialty classes. It is a close-knit K-8 public charter school with a positive school culture and campus events and activities.

The teacher prepares and delivers lessons, differentiates instruction, monitors student progress, manages classroom behavior, and uses approved curricula and research-based practices. The role also includes communicating with families, incorporating technology, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in non-instructional activities as needed. The teacher works in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.

Requirements

• Active and current Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to properly manage confidential information.
• Ability to supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
• Experience working within an urban environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as appropriate during the school year.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
• Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom.
• Create a positive classroom environment that supports student learning.
• Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
• Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
• Communicate and meet with families about their child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
• Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
• Participate in planning and implementation of non-instructional activities as needed.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
