4/5 Axis Machinist (Day Shift)
About The Position
Votaw Precision Technologies is a leader in manufacturing complex precision components, assemblies, and systems for the aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. Our components support major aerospace and defense programs, including the International Space Station, launch vehicles, spacecraft, fighter aircraft, bombers, submarines, radar systems, and ground vehicles. This position is located at our sister company, Vivace International Corporation's manufacturing facility in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will function as part of Votaw Precision Technologies' extended manufacturing operations. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced 4/5 Axis Machinist to join our team. This role is critical for the success of large-scale machined, end-item projects, requiring responsibility and accountability for execution and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex machined components and flight hardware, with a deep understanding of space-flight structures and proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics. This role demands a process-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a desire to contribute to a growing company. Previous machining and manufacturing experience in a job shop environment is highly valued. The role involves the operation, set-up, and utilization of 4/5-Axis milling machines and other related processes.
Requirements
- Able to understand complex machining theory and strategy
- Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short-run jobs
- Able to understand and interrogate complex mechanical drawings and tolerances
- Ability to use common machine shop hand and measurement tools
- Ability to set-up and run multiple CNC Machines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English
- Understand and follow Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance standard (GD&T)
- Strong math skills required
- Aerospace manufacturing experience: 10 yrs. minimum experience
- Self-motivation, able to accomplish a high level of work
- Team player, actively participating in continuous improvement projects with coworkers
- Demonstrate high skill level with the desire for continuous learning
- Experience working in AS9100 and ISO environment
- Safety glasses required when in manufacturing environment
- Hearing protection as needed
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision including using sound judgment to execute independent decisions and departmental initiatives
- Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals
- Highly self-motivated and directed

- Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change
- This position requires the use of information or access to hardware subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR.
Nice To Haves
- Fixture design, fabrication, and manual machining experience is a plus
- Prior experience in an aerospace prototype/ job shop environment preferred
Responsibilities
- Inspect manufactured components for conformance to specifications
- Set up and operate CNC Milling Machines, including but not limited to 4 and 5-Axis
- Support for programming, ensuring proper use of programs & tools
- Work from travelers, blueprints, set up sheets, drawings, and/or verbal instructions, using limited judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals
- Use appropriate measuring devices, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, plug gages, etc.
- Cross-train and support the development of other employees as needed, actively supporting cross-training initiatives to ensure team flexibility and shared knowledge for operational continuity
- Maintain a clean work area daily
