About The Position

This is a Civil Service position. The role participates in the technical operation of a high-pressure steam plant to ensure safe and efficient operation and maintenance. The engineer will operate, maintain, clean, and repair steam boilers and auxiliary equipment, as well as operate the emergency generator on their assigned shift and respond to emergencies. Responsibilities include making rounds, reading charts and gauges, performing inspections and adjustments, keeping a daily log, recording readings, and maintaining good housekeeping practices. Shift and days off will vary, and the position reports directly to the Chief Engineer.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Third Class or higher Stationary Engineers license based on standards established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
  • No felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609.
  • Shall not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997.
  • Shall not have been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
  • Shall not have been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the technical operation of a high-pressure steam plant to ensure that the power plant is operated and maintained safely and efficiently.
  • Operates, maintains, cleans, and repairs steam boilers and all auxiliary equipment in the power plant.
  • Operates emergency generator on assigned shift, responds to emergency situations.
  • Makes rounds of power plant, reads charts and gauges, inspects, and makes adjustments.
  • Keeps station daily log, recording charts and gauges; fuel oil/gas readings.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Performs related duties as required.
