About The Position

ACCEL Schools is hiring a 2nd Grade Teacher at Northwest School of the Arts in Cleveland, Ohio. The teacher will provide a superior education for students by bringing the curriculum to life and fostering a positive classroom environment that prioritizes learning and social-emotional development. Northwest School of the Arts serves EK–8th grade students and emphasizes arts education and project-based learning.

The teacher prepares and delivers lessons, adapts instruction to students’ needs, monitors and records student progress, and supports student behavior and development. The role also involves communicating with families and colleagues, using technology and approved curricula, and participating in school activities as needed.

Requirements

• Active and current Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to properly manage confidential information.
• Ability to supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
• Experience working within an urban environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as appropriate during the school year.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
• Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom.
• Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in.
• Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
• Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
• Communicate and meet with families regarding their child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
• Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
• Participate in planning and implementing non-instructional activities as needed.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
