About The Position

As a union mate at Foss Maritime, you will work with a team to provide safe and reliable maritime services. The role includes training and practical experience in vessel maneuvering, port operations, customer service, engineering, and safety. You will learn about marine propulsion systems, towing configurations, and ship-assist methods, and are expected to understand the fundamentals of propulsion on the vessels you work on. Training also covers rigging, synthetic line care and use, ISM compliance, Safety Management System (SMS) and Vessel Management System (VMS) procedures, and leadership development. Pay is $720 per day, with estimated annual compensation of $131,400 based on an even-time schedule of 182.5 working days per year.

Requirements

• Hold a 500 Ton Mate Near Coastal/Oceans credential or a 3rd Mate Unlimited credential.
• Have a valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Be able to climb aboard tugs and barges, ascend and descend ladders, and balance while aboard vessels in a seaway.
• Be able to kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach overhead, and stand for long periods.
• Complete TOAR (Mate of Tow) if not already obtained.
• Join the IBU (Inland Boatman's Union) within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities
