About The Position

St. Mary School-Marion is seeking a full-time 1st Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This PK-8 Catholic school, located in downtown Marion, serves approximately 140 students from diverse backgrounds. The school emphasizes faith, academics, and diversity, aiming to provide a high-quality Catholic education that forms disciples of Christ. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with diverse student populations, creating a warm and engaging classroom environment that fosters curiosity and growth, and implementing lessons with clarity and creativity. A successful candidate will be warm, energetic, passionate about education, and able to encourage harmony and communication within the school community. The role involves teaching mathematics, language arts, religion, social studies, and science to a single group of 1st-grade students.

Requirements

  • Hold an appropriate Ohio Teaching License (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach.
  • Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks.
  • Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus Protecting God's Children training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Current teaching license for the PK-5 grade range.
  • Active, practicing Catholic.
  • Serve as a model of Catholic faith for the students and represent the teachings of the Catholic church.
  • Comfortable using internet and educational technology, and willing to master new tools.
  • Religious Education certification as required by the diocese.

  • Integrate Catholic teachings and virtues throughout the curriculum and school culture.
  • Understand student learning, development, and faith formation while respecting diversity.
  • Know and understand the content for which they have instructional responsibility.
  • Use varied assessments to inform instruction, evaluate and ensure student learning.
  • Plan and deliver effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student.
  • Create Christ-centered learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students.
  • Collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators and the faith community to support student development, learning and faith.
  • Assume responsibility for their professional academic/spiritual growth, performance, and involvement as an individual and as a member of a Catholic learning community.
