About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of general maintenance or water treatment plant operating experience; alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class B, D, and N endorsements, or the ability to obtain them within a timeframe designated by the City.
• Wisconsin Wastewater Operators License (Basic Level) for subclasses Gen, A, C, E, F, G, H, I, and J, to be obtained within a timeframe designated by the City.
• Ability to respond to an emergency within 20 minutes of the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 1224 10th Avenue West.
• Ability to perform strenuous manual labor, including digging, shoveling, sweeping, raking, hauling, crawling, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and climbing; work may require exerting up to 75 pounds of force.
• Ability to work above or below ground, including in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.
• Ability to safely work around noise, vibration, dust, chemicals, and potentially hazardous chemicals or pesticides.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform general maintenance of wastewater collection and treatment facilities.
• Set up sampling and flow-metering equipment at industrial control manholes to monitor discharges, and collect samples from process units.
• Assist with maintenance, cleaning, and televising of the sanitary sewer system.
• Inspect and maintain wastewater lift stations and facilities.
• Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate system water flow under the direction of the Lead Operator and Advanced Operators.
• Assist water operators with work and projects as assigned by the Water and Wastewater Superintendent.
• Document daily process operations and collect and compute operational data from equipment and the SCADA system.
• Evaluate laboratory and operations data and determine plant adjustments under the direction of the Lead Operator or Advanced Wastewater Operator.
• Operate sewer jetting equipment to maintain the sanitary sewer system.
• Check the sewer system for inflow, infiltration, and illegal connections, and report findings to the Water and Wastewater Superintendent or Lead Operator.
• Work with WI-DNR and area farmers to secure approved biosolids management sites.
• Assist with computing quarterly sewer service charges for extra-strength industrial customers.
• Perform laboratory duties when the laboratory technician is absent.
• Maintain records of work orders, labor, and materials.
• Communicate completed tasks, encountered problems, and future work needs to the Lead Operator, Advanced Operator, and Water and Wastewater Superintendent.
• Use personal protective equipment and follow City safety regulations; safely maintain equipment and report accidents, equipment incidents, and personal injuries.
• Be available for emergency call-outs, weekend and holiday work, and responses to public works emergencies and natural disasters as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
